Questions, questions, questions....
It was the night that Claire and Brendan failed to set the floor alight with their samba and waltzed out of Strictly Come Dancing; the night Eton Road found out what many had already seen: that they don't have the X Factor; and it was the same night that the public lost Faith in Ms Brown, who hauled her chest out of the celebrity jungle. But a group of Women's Link-ers weren't watching any of that. They were making their own excitement at our Quiz Night in Hitchin. It was a night that was lively and loud, as our quizmistress put the contestants through seven rounds: Lesbian Icons, Hertfordshire Happenings, Where We Live, Famous Animals, Identify the Goodies, Next Lines (of songs) and Media Trivia. Some of the questions were as easy as the cheap rounds in Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. But, even with those, some of us would be broke if we'd been playing for money! And some questions had us stumped - except one member, who knows more about Sarah Brightman than is perhaps healthy. Just as the tension was mounting, a half-time break was called. Time for real food after all that food for thought. The scores were close and there was still everything to play for as the teams settled down for the second half. But one team was to prove unstoppable and unbeatable - even though they couldn't name the famous racehorse that died in November 2006 (Desert Orchid - yes, we know that now!), or Dusty Springfield's date of birth (16 April 1939 - well, none of us is old enough to remember that), or which Blue Peter presenter was born in Hitchin (Valerie Singleton). So, congratulations (and a bar of scented soap each) to Team 4. Next stop: Mastermind. And many thanks to our hosts for what was a great, fun night - for winners and losers alike.
(written with perhaps just a hint of gloating by a member of Team 4)
