We booked a hall and made a banner. But what of the music? With our own equipment and a volunteer DJ from among our members all we needed to know was what we all like to listen to. So we made a Newsletter appeal - which just left our DJ with hours of work and agonising choices about what she could fit into a 3 hour play list. Well, I've been to a few Women's Link discos and, I tell you, this one topped the lot!! The hall was packed, the lights flashed, conversations ebbed and flowed, the music was just what we wanted so the dancing started early and ended late. Our DJ even got us on the floor (literally) to 'Oops Upside Your Head'! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. By the end of the evening I found myself dancing next to a die-hard "I don't dance"r who was completely unselfconscious about joining in with the rest of us to our DJs finale - 'I Am What I Am' (yes, corny but we were in the mood) while dancing the Hoky Koky followed by the Can Can to 'New York, New York'. Sounds crazy, huh? Oh yes - but the biggest fun all the same. The number of people that stayed on at the end to help clear up was a testament that, like me, no one wanted it all to end. Many thanks to our DJ and everyone else who made it such a great evening. Here's to the next 15 years and the party for our 30th Anniversary! Women's Link Member - May 2005 |
